NicholsonConstruction Supports Safety Upgrades at Garrison Dam
As part of a continued effort to modernize and reinforce critical infrastructure, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, has initiated important safety upgrades at Garrison Dam near Riverdale, North Dakota. Following a recent safety modification study, USACE identified the need for enhancements to address increasing risks from extreme weather events and flooding.
To support these upgrades, NicholsonConstruction was selected to complete Phase 2 of a key testing program. The project focuses on installing and evaluating a series of unique under-reaming and belled shape style anchor designs to help determine the best solution for the geological conditions. These anchors will play an essential role in supporting are in forced concrete overlay planned for the spillway chute and stilling basin, critical components that ensure the dam can safely handle high flow events.
The test program will inform the final design of long-term improvements that ensure continued safety and reliability of this critical structure.
鈥淲e鈥檙e proud to partner with USACE on such an essential project,鈥 said Cody Telgheder, Rocky Mountain Operations Manager. 鈥淥ur team will work closely with the Corps to provide the technical expertise and support needed to move this important initiative forward.鈥
